The Third fully-revised Edition of the book entitled ‘Environmental Law and Policy in Namibia- Towards Making Africa the Tree of Life’ was officially launched on the 18th of February 2016 at the Hilton Hotel in Windhoek. The book launch was attended by high profile delegates, the media, students and members of the civil society. The book launch formed a part of the ThinkNamibia Environmental Awareness Information Campaign under the main aim of Increasing knowledge and skills on environmental issues through developing dynamic publications. The book offers a multi-faceted insight into the environmental law and policy in Namibia by taking stock of the existing legal framework and Namibia’s commitment to environment-related issues at the local and global scale.

The participants were welcomed by Dr. Wolf Krug who is the Regional Representative of the Hanns Seidel Foundation in Southern Africa. Following this, Ambassador Christian Mathias Schlaga of the Federal Republic of Germany in Namibia commended the authors on the book being a tool for successful action. He further highlighted that Namibian environmental law and policy are regarded as a shining example not only in Africa but well beyond. The book launch organising team had a programme of prominent speakers which included a Keynote Address from the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Honourable Pohamba Shifeta. He emphasized that the main goal of environmental law and policy is to achieve environmental sustainability within the overall framework of sustainable development. Participants also benefited from an overview of the content of the book presented by one of the Editors; Prof. Oliver C. Ruppel, and an author; Ms. Felicity F. !Owoses-/Goagoses. Their presentations were followed by a plenary discussion on the diverse environment-related topics that are presented in the book.
